【概略】
戦国時代末期のとある山間の農村。村人たちは、野武士たちに収穫を奪われる生活を余儀なくされていた。春、麦の刈り入れが終わった頃に四十騎の野武士達が村を襲おうとしていることが判明する。野武士達に対抗すべく百姓たちは「食い詰めて腹を空かせた侍」を雇って戦うことにした。集まった元侍たちは七人。村を守るための方策を練る。百姓たちも戦いの為に組分けされ、侍達の指導により戦いの心得を教えられる。
麦刈りが終わると、野武士たちが現れ、村を襲う。しかし事前に築いておいた柵と堀のために容易に村に入ることができず、死傷者を出して退却していく。その夜、そして翌朝と、野武士は繰り返し襲ってくるが、作戦が功を奏し、野武士は徐々にその数を減らしていく･･････。
【感想】
1998年第11回東京国際映画祭にて渋谷公会堂にて特別上映された「七人の侍」。鑑賞中に地震の大きな揺れが一度あったにもかかわらず上映はとぎれず、観客も見続けた。この稀有な思い出。何度となく見た傑作。黒澤明監督作品の代表作を初めて見たのはテレビだったかも。
麦の収穫期に野武士の一群に襲撃され麦のみならず女たちも略奪されていた、とある農村。村を守るために武士を雇い入れることにした。集まった武士は7人。馬に乗った野武士を一騎ずつ倒す戦略をとり、再三の襲撃を蹴散らすが……。
農民が置かれた惨状を描き、引き裂かれた家族の姿は痛切。ドラマも荒ぶる立ち回りも見事。幾度となく見た作品であったけれど、再見した時には野武士に妻を略奪された夫が妻と再会した時の悲哀、痛切に何とも言えない夫の、そして妻の胸中を察したものだ。
万感の思いを感ずる作品である。

【Summary】
A farming village nestled in the mountains during the late Sengoku period. The villagers were forced to live a life where their harvests were stolen by bandits. In spring, after the wheat harvest was finished, it was discovered that forty bandits were planning to raid the village. To fight against the bandits, the villagers decided to hire ‘starving samurai’ to battle them. Seven former samurai gathered, and they devised strategies to protect the village. The villagers were also organized for battle and taught the principles of fighting under the guidance of the samurai.
After the wheat harvest, the bandits appeared and attacked the village. However, due to the fences and moats that had been built in advance, they could not easily enter the village, suffering casualties and retreating. That night and the following morning, the bandits repeatedly attacked, but the villagers’ strategy proved successful, and the bandits gradually decreased in number….
【Impressions】
In 1998, at the 11th Tokyo International Film Festival, ‘Seven Samurai’ was given a special screening at Shibuya Public Hall. Despite a significant earthquake tremor occurring once during the screening, the film continued without interruption, and the audience kept watching. This rare memory. A masterpiece watched countless times. The first time I might have seen one of Akira Kurosawa’s representative works was on television.
In a certain farming village, during the wheat harvest, a band of bandits attacked, looting not only the wheat but also the women. To protect the village, they decided to hire samurai. Seven samurai gathered. They adopted a strategy of defeating the mounted bandits one by one and successfully repelled repeated attacks, but…
The film depicts the plight of the farmers, and the torn-apart families are heartrending. Both the drama and the fierce action sequences are remarkable. Although it was a work I had watched many times, upon seeing it again, I keenly felt the sorrow of a husband whose wife was abducted by the bandits, and I deeply sensed the indescribable emotions of both the husband and the wife when they reunited.
It is a work that evokes profound feelings.
【Résumé】
Un village agricole de montagne à la fin de l’époque Sengoku. Les villageois étaient obligés de vivre dans la crainte que des guerriers vagabonds leur volent leurs récoltes. Au printemps, peu après la fin de la moisson de blé, on découvre que quarante de ces guerriers vagabonds prévoient d’attaquer le village. Pour leur faire face, les paysans décident d’engager des « samouraïs affamés et sans fortune » pour se battre. Sept anciens samouraïs se rassemblent et élaborent des stratégies pour protéger le village. Les paysans sont également organisés en groupes pour le combat et instruits des rudiments de la guerre sous la direction des samouraïs. Lorsque la moisson est terminée, les guerriers vagabonds apparaissent et attaquent le village. Cependant, grâce à des palissades et des fossés construits à l’avance, ils ne peuvent pas entrer facilement dans le village et subissent des pertes avant de se replier. Cette nuit-là et le lendemain matin, les guerriers vagabonds attaquent à plusieurs reprises, mais la stratégie porte ses fruits et leur nombre diminue progressivement….
【Impressions】
Le film “Les Sept Samouraïs” a été projeté en séance spéciale au Shibuya Kōkaidō lors de la 11e édition du Festival international du film de Tokyo en 1998. Malgré un fort tremblement de terre qui a secoué la salle pendant la projection, celle-ci ne s’est pas interrompue et le public a continué à regarder. Ce souvenir exceptionnel. Un chef-d’œuvre vu à de nombreuses reprises. La première fois que j’ai vu une œuvre majeure du réalisateur Akira Kurosawa, c’était peut-être à la télévision.
Dans un village quelconque, pendant la période des récoltes de blé, une bande de brigands attaque et pille non seulement le blé mais aussi les femmes. Pour protéger le village, ils décident d’engager des samouraïs. Sept samouraïs se rassemblent. Ils adoptent la stratégie de vaincre un à un les brigands à cheval et repoussent à plusieurs reprises les attaques…
Le film décrit les conditions tragiques des paysans et la déchirante situation des familles brisées. À la fois le drame et les combats tumultueux sont remarquables. Bien que j’aie vu ce film de nombreuses fois, lors d’une relecture, j’ai compris la tristesse du mari dont la femme a été emportée par les brigands et la douleur incomparablement ressentie à la réunion avec sa femme, ainsi que le ressenti du mari et celui de l’épouse.
C’est une œuvre qui suscite des émotions profondes.
